Let's Do It! Cyprus 2024
People who love nature are people who love life, their fellow man, animals and everything living in this world. We are very proud that we managed to gather more than 25,000 volunteers in just 1 week, with more than 300 groups having registered for participation, out of which 201 are schools. By the end of November, we will have exceeded 1,000 more students, closing the year with more than 30,000 volunteers having participated in our campaign from November 2023 to November 2024.
For the week of October 29-November 3, we collected a total of 431,000 liters of garbage! Specifically, 274,000 liters of mixed waste and 157,000 liters of PMD waste have been collected from our beautiful island!
With the help of the Union of Municipalities and the Union of Communities, all waste has been collected and transported to legal landfills or processed as PMD, while all our volunteers have received additional instructions on the separation of glass, cans and batteries according to local regulations and charities. In addition, large items such as tires, refrigerators, etc. have been safely transported to green points for processing by each municipality separately.
Like the years before, we had the massive participation of Ministries and Public Bodies whose actions can influence the public by setting a good example. Within the framework of Cleanup Week, the Cyprus Police, the Cyprus Fire Brigade, the National Guard (with a multitude of camps), the Cyprus Scout Corps and the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, which supported the campaign and was also a sponsor, had the opportunity to participate with their own cleanups.
With great joy, we embraced and were embraced by the first Sustainable Pedieos River Festival organized by the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare and CSTI, with 11 cleanups along the Pedieos River and with a multitude of parallel actions such as tree plantings by the Municipalities and Recycling Workshops.
Finally, we would like to emphasize that Let’s Do It! Cyprus is a campaign that cannot be done without the passion and boundless love of all our volunteers and staff who work feverishly, sacrificing many hours of their personal time. In line with the philosophy of Together Cyprus, all the staff hired for this campaign are either students, unemployed or young ‘unreached’ professionals whose work we want to promote or support.
We warmly thank all of you who believe in us and trust us to do our job. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
